IPNOT PICTURE OF THE DAY from January 8th 2017: Reality Bites

Our daily picture from Sunday January 8th 2017 shows the aftermath of yesterday’s incident in Palestine’s occupied East Jerusalem, in which a Palestinian lorry driver and four Israel’s occupation forces’ soldiers died.

What Israel and it’s ‘friends’ want is a safe occupation for its occupation forces and illegal Israeli settlers. They believe that they can have it both: An occupation without an end and no casualties.

Death is supposed to be something that happens only occupied Palestinians, this belief a part of the Zionist mindset that there are different rules for Israel and Palestinians, even when it comes to dying.

So when Israel’s occupation soldiers die while keeping up the brutal occupation, it comes as a shock to their fellow occupation soldiers. What was supposed to be a safe ‘adventure’ of oppressing an entire nation has turned suddenly real – their own lives are also in danger.

We don’t go as far – although we hope – as to claim that one of these soldiers might comes to grips with the nature of the occupation itself, and how unjust it is as a result of this rude awakening.

Far more likely, they will join those Israelis now demanding ‘revenge’ against those who Israel occupies and oppresses, having bought the big Israeli lie that Israel has a ‘right’ to occupy Palestinians and do it without a cost in the lives of Israel’s majority population.

But we can hope otherwise.
