On Friday December 13th over 2000 people took part on the Great Return March demonstrations on the border between the besieged Gaza Strip and ethnically cleansed Palestine 1948.
On this occasion official demonstrations did not take part in northern part of Gaza nor at Khan Younis in the south for political reasons as Hamas had arranged anniversary events for its own 32nd anniversary for Friday in northern and southern part of the tiny
coastal enclave. Still there was some participation at Khan Younis, where youths were captured on photograph throwing a Molotov cocktail at Israeli occupation forces’ vehicle.
This was the 84th Friday Great Return March protest, and like during the 83 earlier ones, it’s participants were attacked by Israel’s occupation forces.
Israel’s occupation forces appear to have wounded at least 9 people, one of them seriously. 5 people were shot with live bullets and four were shot with rubber-coated steel bullets. The seriously wounded victim was shot in head.
Beyond dozens of people who suffered from ill effects of inhaling Israeli occupation forces’ tear gas, there are reports of people who would have been injured by being hit by occupation tear-gas canisters, but these reports are imprecise on the number of people who would have been wounded by them.
So far there has been no detailed reports from local human rights organizations in Gaza and the details of wounded are from media reports made on Friday itself and they are in some details contradictory. Our numbers are a likely combination based on them.
Mahal Mezher, a member of both the Central Committee of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine(PFLP) and Supreme National Authority for Return Marches commented the situation of the Great Return March movement on Friday:
“Our message is that we are still sticking to the continuation of these marches, and that we have right of resistance against the unjust policies towards our people…”
Mezher continued that the Supreme National Authority for Return Marches will meet to develop and plan for increase in activity in the coming weeks.
